Farm Show Fun

Yesterday, we took a family fun day and went to the Farm Show. For those of you who don’t know what this is, it is an event with lots of farm animals, horse and cow showing, farm based activities, and the best part ( in my opinion) amazing food !

The farm show is a week long event held at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pa. It started on January 7th, and will go until January 14th. Admission is free, however parking is $15 per car. You can park directly at the complex or at a satellite lot and take a shuttle. This is what we did and it was very easy. Plus it was about 18 degrees so we didn’t have to walk far. Each day at the farm show, there are multiple shows and events you can watch at different times. We didn’t get a chance to watch any of these, we mostly just made our way around the animals and vendor exhibits throughout the complex. There are a ton of tractors, trucks, exhibit displays about fruit and vegetables, and pretty much anything you might ever have a question about. Each year they also make a butter sculpture for the show. This year it was a farm landscape design ! They also have a bunch of kid friendly activities including  milking a cow and riding a carousel.

My parents always took my brother and I when we were little and I remember it being very fun for us getting to see the animals and watch the shows. Layton totally loved it this year. He kept saying “farm show” the whole way there and every time he saw a cow or a horse he got super excited. He was able to ride the carousel and I think his favorite part was getting to see the chickens !

For $15 and an hour drive, it was well worth it for a day of fun. If you are looking for something to do this week, head out to Harrisburg. I felt like the food court was not too expensive. I would recommend bringing your own bottles of water, they are $3 each, but the food was relatively reasonable. While you are there do not forget to get your milkshake and potato donuts. We were able to get our chocolate milkshake, but unfortunately the potato donuts were SOLD OUT! Get them early, so you don’t miss out (they are amazing.)
